Maruti Suzuki sells over 200,000 BS VI cars six months ahead of deadline

Maruti Suzuki India has announced that it has sold over 200,000 BS VI-compliant vehicles within six months of the launch of its first BS VI compliant vehicle. The milestone comes exactly six months before the mandate for implementation of the stringent BS VI emission norms comes into play from April 1, 2020.

Maruti Suzuki India says it has cleared BS IV stock of its Alto, Baleno, Wagon R, and Ertiga and is confident of having zero stock of BS IV vehicles by March 31, 2020.

Maruti Suzuki launched its BS VI range with Alto 800 and Baleno in April 2019, almost a year before the government stipulated timeline of April 2020. The company now has eight models which are BS VI compliant –Alto 800, Baleno, Wagon R (1.2L), Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, XL6 and S-Presso.

Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said, “We thank customers who have opted for our BS VI range of vehicles. We believe that mass adoption is one of the most important factors for success of any new technology. Offering eight BS VI-compliant petrol vehicles in the mass segment, much ahead of timeline, has helped us to reach this technology to a larger customer base.”

According to Maruti Suzuki India, its BS VI-compliant petrol vehicles can also run on BS IV petrol. They have been “extensively tested with BS IV fuel and there is no operational concern,” says the company.
